The Insurance Helpline - Frequently Asked Questions

Who are TIG?
Totally Insured Group Ltd is a UK Registered Company, based in Romsey, Hampshire. We are an Independent Financial Adviser, authorised and regulated by the Financial Services Authority to conduct non-investment & general insurance business.
How can I verify that TIG is legitimate?
Totally Insured Group Ltd is registered with Companies House, registration number 4547383. We are authorised and regulated by the Financial Services Authority, registration number 314003.

How can TIG get me cover when others can’t?
Totally Insured Group is an Independent Financial Adviser. This means we can approach every insurance provider in the UK. This gives us more options as to where we place your enquiry. We have acquired invaluable experience in knowing which insurers are best to approach for certain conditions or hobbies. We cannot guarantee to obtain cover for every single case, but we’ll try.

How does TIG work?

There’s nothing worse than filling out pages of forms then waiting for months only to be told that you can’t get affordable cover, if at all, because you have a non standard application. At TIG we screen all potential applicants to obtain as much information from you about your condition then speak to the insurers first on your behalf. Only when we have approached the insurers to gauge the potential for acceptance and cost will we proceed to application. This saves you a lot of wasted time and effort - and we do all the work for you!

Does cover with TIG cost more?
In the majority of cases there will be additional costs or ‘loadings’ imposed by the Insurance providers because of the increased risk. By approaching numerous providers TIG aim to obtain the lowest premiums available and discuss any possible increase in premiums with you before we submit an application. That way there are no nasty surprises! TIG does not charge any fees for this service.

What if I already have an insurance policy?
It is still worthwhile getting a new quote. Over the last few years, insurance companies have reduced their premiums – some by 30% - which means that you could be paying more than you need to for exactly the same policy. However you must never cancel an existing policy until you have an alternative in place and on-risk.

If I deal directly with the Insurance Companies, will my premium be reduced because they are not paying commission?
No. There is a strict policy which does not allow dual pricing. This means the premium you pay to insurance companies, banks, building societies, direct sales forces or any companies tied to one insurance provider such as Tesco or Virgin etc. is the same as you would pay if dealing with an IFA recommending the same insurance company’s policy. In other words, insurance companies cannot reduce the premium simply because they are not paying commission. In such cases, the insurance company keeps the commission but does not reduce the premium to you.
